If you’ve been following the handset makers lately, then you already know that there are a lot of changes that will be getting made over time. You see, innovation has to always be happening in order for cell phone companies to actually sell products. When things get bad, that’s when they start losing money and then we see them either get acquired or stop producing all together. The Palm OS series of phones experienced this first hand, and it seems more and more like RIM is going to be in for some trouble as time passes on.

The most current news is that Sony has been given the green light to acquire joint venture partner Ericsson, which has some deeper meanings for the tech industry at large than you might imagine.

You see, Sony has a problem with Ericsson, but the only way to fix it would be to essentially take over the entire company at large and become the sole owner.

Sony also needs to make sure that they can boost their mobile portfolio, and taking over Ericsson is definitely going to be the way to go. The deal has already been pleasing to both companies’ boards, but the deal still needs regulatory approval.

Sony is poised to get a lot more than most might imagine. For example, they’re going to get plenty of patents, which is what they need right now. They need to get more patents in order to have cutting edge technology and be taken seriously in the marketplace, the way that Motorola and HTC are.

It’s not that Sony Ericsson didn’t release some awesome phones. The SE Xperia Play? Definitely a step in the right direction, especially if the direction is getting more people to invest in mobile entertainment as a whole.

What about the Sony Ericsson T681i? Colorful display and plenty of features. The P series was important for the time it was released, as it brought a lot of high end large format screens into the mobile game. The camera-centric K series gave people what they were looking for.

Ericsson doesn’t lack in the benefits department with this deal. They’re going to get 1.47B USD for their stake in the venture, which isn’t too terrible.

What really hurt the venture the most? That’s easy — the rise of the iPhone. It was a given that the SE didn’t take the iPhone seriously, a move that proved damaging and even critical to the failure of the venture as a whole.

Don’t worry, SE. RIM did the same thing. You’re in good company. It will be interesting to see what Sony Ericsson does in the future now that they will become a wholly owned subsidiary of Sony Corporation.

CES is one of the conferences to watch when it comes to all things tech. Even though it’s not open to the public, there’s always a lot of information that gets passed around.

A helpful tipster has leaked some information about a hot new phone coming out sometime, and we think you might be interested too.

It’s the HTC Primo, which a lot of people are excited by because it’s another HTC creation. The phone manufacturer is well known for putting out some really cool things. But you knew that already, so let’s get down to the good stuff!

There aren’t a whole lot of details for the HTC Primo yet, since it’s still in development. Overall, we’re seeing some mid-range specs for it, but we think there’s still a market for the phone.

The screen isn’t as big as what you might be used to when it comes to Android phones, but we think a 3.7 inch Super AMOLED screen should still do the trick. This isn’t going to be any ordinary screen either — Gorilla Glass is the order of the day here.

On the power side, you’ll find a dual-core 1Ghz Qualcomm processor, which will let you get just about any mobile phone task you could think of done with ease. Dual core is honestly the way most Android phones are going now, so we weren’t surprised at all to see this again.

There’s also 512MB of RAM on board. This isn’t as luxurious as some phones that offer nearly 2GB of on board space, but we suspect there’s going to be a memory card expansion to balance this out.

The camera specs are decent — 5MP. There was a time where 5MP was considered high end, but the technology industry at large has moved past this benchmark since then.

What we like most is the fact that Ice Cream Sandwich is going to be installed as default. This means that you get Android 4.0 without having to beg and plead your carrier. The best news is that this should also be a Beats Audio model with tons of amazing audio functionality right there embedded into the OS.

The price might be a little tough, though — it’s estimated that it’ll be around $389 USD / 250 GBP. That’s going to be a little high compared to other phones that you can get for a lot less. Of course, that might also be the no contract price, which wouldn’t be too terrible on that side of things.

Simply put, are there better phones out there? Sure there are. However, we really think that this is going to be a good phone that you can enjoy for a very long time. There’s no word when this phone will be offered to the public, so you’ll just have to wait and see what happens!

After the huge success of the Nexus One smart phone, Google teamed up its powerful Android operating system with the Samsung hardware to introduce to the world the best smart phone, which is now known as the “Nexus S.”

Comes with an optimal pricing tag, this GSM smart phone has a great list of features and is definitely a great buy. Raking in rave reviews, the first thing you will notice about the Nexus S is the display screen. First look at the screen, you will instantly fall in love with the extremely intuitive and rich colors the device boosts of. The fact that it uses Super AMOLED display technology is an added bonus; this is what consumers crave.

Aside from the brilliant 4 inch AMOLED contour display, Samsung’s Nexus S has Android Gingerbread OS. For the unfamiliar souls, this is the latest Android Gingerbread version available (although the “Honey Comb” Android OS are in the works) as of now. The Gingerbread android operating system does a lot more than Android 2.1v, or the Froyo (Android 2.2) operating system.

Although the phone does share the same slate form factor as that of the Nexus One device, but the design is complete different. It may not be innovative for some, but it blissfully provides what the consumers urges for; device that is not bulkier and finely fits in your hand. After all, that is what matters at the end.

The Nexus S smart phone is charged up with ARM Cortex A8 1Ghz processor and has support for installing the third party Java application. Dual SIM? Oh yes! The phone is also said to include the triple SIM facility — and this is awesome from a consumer point of view, you know.

With distinctive voice search capability and the lively experience of the Android OS, the phone also has a great responsiveness and is snappy enough to navigate through menus; the credit equally goes to the contour display screen and the Android Gingerbread. Also, despite the normal usage, it turns out that the battery life of Nexus S is way better than most of the smart phones.

Nexus S supports all the standard multimedia format, from MP3 audio to MP4 video files that are able to run flawlessly on the phone’s screen. Plus we have internet browsing, WLAN, Bluetooth and microUSB support.

The Nexus S smart phone employs a 5 Megapixel camera, with auto-focus of course. The screen tones the colors while taking pictures, while the flash illuminates the shots. Overall the phone does a great job in capturing images of good resolution. Not to forger, we have the HD video recording which works at 28 frames per second and videos are recorded at 720 x 480 resolution. Shoot your videos in 720p and enjoy the crystal clear output.

With the victory of the Nexus S smart phone in the mobile sector; this device has been able to establish itself distinctly in this crammed industry. You will be mesmerized with the brilliant Super AMOLED display screen and the operating system that graces the phone down the road. Worth the buy? Definitely!

Make sure to also check out amazing Samsung Galaxy s3 deals for your next phone purchase.

Have you ever been to a hotel that didn’t offer free wireless Internet access? If you haven’t had the pain of not being able to check email while you travel, then you’re very lucky. These days, some hotels are cutting out a lot of features in order to offer better prices to customers. Unfortunately, this means that all of the features that you use dot love while you travel can disappear without you realizing it.

Even if a hotel does claim to have Internet access, there’s no guarantee that you’ll be able to connect to it. It all depends on where the router is, and where your room is. If there’s too much distance between your computer and the access point, you will not be able to get online.

There just has to be a better way to be a good traveler and still stay plugged into everything that matters to you. These days, not being able to go online just won’t work. You will need to make sure that you can actually tap into the Internet when it’s convenient for you. Sure, you could go to a coffee store and all that, but why would you really want to go through all that? It’s just better to make sure that you really get Internet where you’re at in your hotel room. If you don’t have that ability, then it’s time to get the right tools on your side for good.

The best tool you can have when you’re traveling is mobile broadband, but you might not be sure what’s actually meant here. If you’ve ever seen people using Internet when you know there’s no access points around, then they’ve been using mobile broadband technology. It’s those little USB sticks that you see — they’re roughly $100, give or take. The cost varies, and the plans vary. You can get a no-contract deal for a little more money up front, but you get the benefit of not having to hold onto something that you’re not going to use for years and years. Paying those early termination fees gets tiring after a while, you know.

So, the biggest part that you will need to take in is that once you’re armed with mobile broadband technology, you’ll be able to access the Internet from anywhere that you can catch a signal. The signal actually comes from the cell phone towers rather than cable, DSL, or satellite. This means that you can get Internet in a lot more places because theoretically, anywhere that you have a cell phone signal, you also have an Internet connection. That’s pretty powerful for travelers that have to move around from city to city, where they know that they have to get Internet access.

The first thing that you really need to decide if you’re going to go down the mobile broadband track is where you actually need coverage. Then you will want to start looking at coverage maps, depending on what type of provider you want to go with. Rural areas might be a little harder to cover, but the only way to really know is by looking at the official coverage maps.

Keep in mind that weather plays a role into whether or not you’ll get a good signal. If the towers are clouded, then it will be hard to get a signal. Not paying attention to this has led to a lot of frustration for mobile broadband users in the past, so keep that in mind as you start looking to start service of your own.

If you’re not sure how much you’ll use the wireless broadband card, you might want to actually go with a no-contract plan. Yes, you’ll pay more up front, but you have the power to back out at any time — something that you wouldn’t get by taking advantage of a provider’s contract offer. On the other hand, if you really are a hardcore traveler or if mobile broadband is honestly the only option that you have where you are, you might want to think carefully about a long term contract if that would bring your overall price down.

A final point that has to be noted here is the usage issue. When you’re looking at services, you will probably want to go with an unlimited plan. Even though all plans generally have some cap of some kind (bandwidth isn’t free or cheap, you know), the unlimited plans are generally a lot more generous. In other words, you can use it without running into a hard data usage cap. Now, if you try to turn it into a neighborhood wireless spot, then you’ll attract attention. But generally speaking, personal data use shouldn’t set off any alarms.

So…mobile broadband for everyone? While it’s hard to guarantee anything in life, one thing that can be said is that mobile broadband definitely opens up your options — why not check it out today?

The smart phone industry is now emerging as the most popular mobile innovation. Here, you can do most things that a regular computer can do: do email, browse the web, play games and of course, the quintessential SMS and Voice services. Nowadays, you can find different operating systems running on mobile phones. Since we treat a phone just like we treat a computer, it is very important now to choose the right phone for the right platform. Let us focus on 3 popular operating systems nowadays and see which phone model works best for them.

Android

HTC Inspire 4G

The Inspire may not have those fancy dual core processors some other competitor phones may have but it is a balance of two things. It is a fabulous phone at a fabulous price. It is not a secret that the user interface of the HTC Sense is one of the best that you could possibly find for the Android. If you are looking for a starter pack, this is definitely the model that you should choose. This 4.3 inch model has 4GB memory storage and uses a TI OMAP processor. Of course for those tech lovers, there is the 4G SHPA support and a screen resolution of 480×800. Of course, it has its glitches and disappointments like not having a front facing camera to make video calls, and a hard to remove battery.

iOS

There is no doubt that the iPhone is the most popular name in Smart phones. It is where the entire craze began back in 2007. years after, it still is one of the best. It has undergone several changes throughout the years. With the 3G, 3GS, 4G and soon, the iPhone 5. A lot of people were bugged by the antenna issue of the 4G and that is one thing that is very important for smart phones. Nonetheless, some consumers prefer the 4G while others feel that the 3GS still can pack a punch. It is hard to compare the two since every time Apple upgrades, they evolve functionality as well. If you are into state of the art and sleeker appeal, the 4G is your best bet. Those who still hold 3GS need not feel that they have to change phones since it is a pretty durable and beautiful phone nonetheless.

Windows Phone 7

LG Quantum

LG has created some really nice, powerful and intuitively designed smart phones in recent years and the LG Quantum seems to deserve a good praise. It is the best one using the Windows Phone 7. it is a well designed and it is a versatile phone. You can slide out the QWERTY keyboard at the back. The battery is impressive and it uses a fantastic Snapdragon processor. It has a capacitive touch screen that is very responsive and the quality of image is as brilliant as you would expect.

Of course, this list can change in a matter of weeks with more and more models coming up. Nonetheless, if you want what is coming up now, then these are your best bets.

The T-Mobile G2 has seemingly been announced and released just a few months ago, and now T-Mobile is ready to cash in on the name and get another G2 – but this time, it’s from LG. In a weird twist that must’ve left HTC heartbroken , T-Mobile will be offering the new LG Optimus 2X (which is the first phone to run a dual core Tegra 2 system-on-a-chip) as the T-Mobile G2X.

Now, if you’re not a HTC fan or don’t really care about the manufacturer of your new smartphone, you’ll definitely like the new G2X. It certainly has everything one might need to be super productive and entertained on the move.

A typical slab smartphone with very powerful hardware

The exterior of the Optimus 2X/G2X looks like just about any other slab smartphone on the market – it is relatively thin with rounded edges and four Android navigation touch buttons on the front below the screen. There’s definitely nothing special about it, but it looks great, feels solid and works just fine. The display is a very nice 4 inch WVGA (800×480 pixels) LCD unit that should be more than enough for all the tasks you can throw at it. Of course, it is covered with an edge-to-edge scratch resistant glass for protection.

The internal hardware was the main focus for the Optimus 2X, and that is definitely the case with the G2X, as well. The phone features NVidia’s new Tegra 2 System-on-a-Chip, with two processor cores running at 1 GHz each and a powerful GeForce mobile graphics adapter that is 4 times faster than the Adreno used in the first generation 1 GHz Snapdragon – the platform that was used extensively in smartphones and tablets alike throughout 2010.

Sure enough, the device has enough RAM to support the powerful processor – 768 MB of fast DDR2 RAM, and there will be 8 GB of onboard memory, with the ability to add up to 32 GB more using a micro SD card – that should be plenty for anyone, unless of course, you’re storing HD videos on your phone .

1080p video recording and all the features you’ll ever need

Speaking of HD: the Tegra 2 has both a 1080p HD decoder and encoder onboard, which means that not only you’re able to watch Full HD videos and movies on your phone without taxing the processor (only the GPU), but you can also shoot videos in 1080p resolution using the 8 megapixels camera on the back – an impressive feat that only LG seems to offer at the moment – you can find demo videos on Youtube, and they certainly look good. There’s also a smaller 1.3 megapixels camera on the front for video calls, if you fancy them.

Other hardware specs are also up to date: the T-Mobile G2X has almost everything you can think of, including support for HSPA+ networks, HDMI out and dual display support (meaning you can output video while working on the touch screen!), Wifi N, Bluetooth 3.0, all the standard sensors and more. You certainly won’t miss anything on this smartphone!
Vanilla Android completes the G2X – a truly international smartphone

The T-Mobile G2X will come with a default Android installation, meaning no buggy skin from LG (which used to take a lot of memory and crash often on the demo Optimus 2X), just vanilla Android, customizable to your needs. The phone will ship with Android 2.2, and there will be an upgrade to 2.3 in the future.

A concern among T-Mobile users is the almost confirmed buyout of the company by AT&T – if that happens, older T-Mobile phones (even the G2) will not work on the AT&T’s 3G network, being limited to only EDGE. That will not be a problem with the G2X – this device supports practically all major 3G and 4G frequencies, including 850, 900, 1800, 1900 AND 2100 – a little known feature that makes this phone a truly international smartphone – business users can also benefit from this! All in all, the T-Mobile G2X will be worth getting, especially if it’s priced right.

LG was one of the first companies to announce that they will produce a smartphone with a dual core processor, and the first one to actually demonstrate a working prototype ahead of everyone. At CES 2011 they already had a fully working phone ready to go into mass production – the Optimus 2X.

Tegra 2 delivers twice the performance of any previous platforms

Previously named LG Star, the Optimus 2X is powered by the Tegra 2 platform, which as you may already know is a dual core SoC from NVidia that packs enough processing power to run any apps that the users need. Not only does it have two processor cores running at 1 GHz, but it also features the new GeForce mobile graphics solution that is faster than the PowerVR SGX540 by at least 50% and a dedicated hardware encoder, which makes it possible to film 1080p videos without taxing the processor (the Optimus 2X is the first and only device to actually use the feature).

Slim design, a beautiful 4 inch display and a ton of features

The Optimus 2X is not only powerful, but it also looks great, with its rounded edges and 10.9 mm thickness. It is built of pretty high quality materials – the front is covered by a protective tempered glass, the back has a sturdy plastic cover, while the sides are surrounded by a metallic frame, like the iPhone 4.

The 4 inch screen deserves a separate mention, as well. It is an LCD unit with a resolution of 800×480 pixels, displaying 16 million colors at a very nice contrast and brightness ratios. Users will certainly have no problem discerning the text or images on it and it’s easy to type on the virtual keyboard at this size.

Feature-wise, the Optimus 2X certainly isn’t lacking: it’s got almost anything you can think of. Support for Wifi b/g/n, Bluetooth 3.0, HSDPA and HSUPA speeds of up to 21 Mbps and 5.76 Mbps, respectively, accelerometer, gyroscope, proximity and other sensors – you name it, the 2X has got it all covered.
1080p video recording and Android 2.3 complete the package

On the back you’ll find the 8 megapixels camera, which, aside from taking nice pictures, can shoot Full HD 1080p video clips for as long as your memory can hold – a first on smartphones. With this device, you can definitely leave your point-and-shoot or Flip camera at home without worrying that you might not catch a moment on tape. You also have a smaller 1.3 megapixels camera on the front, which is just enough for video calls or taking and sending quick photos/videos of yourself.

Sure enough, the Optimus 2X is powered by the Android operating system, and while it will come with the 2.2 version installed out of the box, an update to 2.3 will be available later, which will give the user better performance on the dual core processor, more features and a more polished interface (although LG has got that covered with their own skin and some unique features).

The LG Optimus 2X is definitely a phone worthy of attention. It’s powerful, it’s stylish and it has all the features you’ll ever need, so if you’re in the market for a new smartphone, you should really take a look at it before deciding what to get.

If you’re a Research in Motion fan, chances are good that you’re both excited and agitated by the rise of the BlackBerry Playbook. Now, we’re pretty big crackberry people around here, but we have to come out with the obvious question: can the BlackBerry brand be saved?

It’s a really hard question to answer. First and foremost, you have to assume that the BlackBerry brand is something that needs to be saved. If you’re a die-hard crackberry type that’s owned just about every BB since the very beginning black and white variety, you might feel that the Playbook is just a smart move by BlackBerry.

Unfortunately, the general public doesn’t feel the same way. For starters, the Playbook requires you to already own a BlackBerry — something that is a failed marketing move. Instead of giving people the chance to really experience the BlackBerry brand without the iconic phone getting in the way, Research in Motion decides to cripple the Playbook from day one. It’s a bad move on several fronts.

Consider first the new user that has no idea how to navigate through a BlackBerry. They probably own another type of phone, and thanks to RIM’s mistake with the Playbook, they always will. Instead of seeing the BB phone as an asset, they’ll feel like they’ve been pushed into making a larger commitment than they would have otherwise if the Playbook already had all of the functionality required.

For those not in the loop about the Playbook, you must own a Blackberry phone already to get the productivity tools that you’re used to. Everything else is replaced by a webOS type of interface, which is something that can be a bit irritating — especially if you’re not familiar with the BlackBerry brand.

This is something that can turn into a major turn off for new users, and this really isn’t the era of Research in Motion. When you’re Apple, you can demand that people have an iPhone before they work with your hardware and no one bats an eyelash. The marketing machine has already softened the market in this respect. When you’re Research in Motion, you’re a lot better off trying to get people back into your brand by putting out a polished product.

Because of the differences in market share, a polished product is really the best way to go. Unfortunately, Research in Motion fails here as well. Most of the major reviews for the Playbook had to have several updates as RIM issued last minute software patches and upgrades. Again, is it slightly unfair to call RIM on the carpet for this when Apple and Google do it themselves? Sure, but iPhone and Android are very, very hot right now. BlackBerry has to catch up to being hot outside of traditional business circles.

Even within traditional business circles, Apple is chomping up valuable market share, which is even more troubling. Research in Motion has a lot of work to do if they really want to move forward and get things done — how will they do it? Only time will tell.

So, what do you think? Would you purchase a Playbook as it is, or would they need to really add in independent functionality in order for you to put down hard earned money? Sound off in the comments, we would love to hear from you!

Acer has finally started getting into the form of playing bigger games in the cell phone domain. It has also showed various variations like other top notch Android phones in the market. Acer Liquid Mt which is otherwise known as Acer Liquid Metal is a successor to Acer Liquid E which had got a little fame in the Northern America.

Acer assumes Liquid Mt to be the next generation mobile phone which has the combination of both power as well as style. The phone’s striking metal casing is one of the best attracting features which adds to one style statement. Acer Liquid MT has a large 3.5 inches curved resolution capacitive touch screen which is amongst the best of its features. The touch screen is very responsive, multi-touch control and fast which leaves behind a wow factor.

The fastness of the phone is being judged by the 800 MHz processor embedded into it. The phone functionality is smooth and exciting by such powerful processor. The body of the phone is made by the stainless steel which gives a shinny property to the phone. They are solid as well as resistance which prevents the internal parts being damaged away. The chrome trims included gives a strong feeling to the phone.

The phone sizes 115 mm in height, 63mm in the width and 13.5 mm in the depth. It weighs only 135 grams which is same as most of the smart phones in the market. The connectivity property of the mobile is also enhanced by including HSPA 14.4 MBPS, Wi-Fi n. The device is also 3G enabled which helps in faster video chatting, live streaming and many other internet facilities. It has also got bluetooth connectivity facility to share videos with other devices.

The most important and unique feature that the device has is The Acer’s user interface. It has been developed to manage and organize applications easily. Some of the important functionalities of this Interface are its ability to quickly start-up most frequently used apps. It has also got the ability to customize the home screen according to user’s wish and choice.

The phone runs on Android Froyo with which you can experience faster web browsing at 5 times more speed the earlier versions. The web browser helps you to access internet pages faster which are flash enabled. It has also been optimised with JavaScript engine.

The best part is the Acer Social Jogger which seems to be very important for all individuals in today’s life. It aggregates facebook as well as twitter feed to give you latest information and updates from your social life. There is also a specific widget prepared for the home screen which updates you regularly.

The camera included in the phone is 5 mega pixels with an LED flash. The camera will allow taking some decent images and photos to share in the social world. This may disappoint some but is manageable. Apart from camera, another feature which may annoy some people is its default Acer UI. Different people have different likes and the default UI for the phone is set to Acer UI which can be later switched off if not liked.
